Other Characters: Megatron (Transformers: Shattered Glass), Thundercracker (Transformers AU)

Name: Sunstorm
From: Transformers: Shattered Glass
Appearance:
His Jet mode
His Mech mode
Age: 500 years, physically appears to be the same age as a mech of a few thousand years.
Gender: Giant Robot, appears to be and refers to self by male pronouns and terms.

Personality:
Sunstorm is very young and naive in many ways. He knows very little of how the world truly works and as such he is never very confident with what he is doing or things he might say. He has a generally sweet and caring demeanor and is prone to helping others around him feel happy or well when he can. He Is very excitable and eager to please, getting overwhelmed in his attempts to do what he thinks is the right thing.

He is very attention deprived and seeks its comfort often among those that will give it to him, unfortunately due to his limited experience he doesn’t fully understand what to do with being given affection and will get overwrought as he tries to figure it out. He can be very stubborn and hard headed about some things, normally placing the most value on something he learned or heard from his ‘brother’ on the other side of things there are things he refuses to believe even from that awe inspiring, and all knowing, source.

One of the things that weighs most heavily on him is that he doesn’t know what purpose his life has, or if he has one at all. Having been torn down from the very beginning for being a failed copy of Starscream he places very little value in his own life when compared to any others. Being so unsure of his own purpose he is more than likely to consider his life expendable if faced with a situation where lives were being gambled with.

He can be very trusting, despite his past, especially of those who call themselves Decepticons, and he is more than willing to take everything they say at face value, often considering them the authority on whatever they are speaking about unless it contradicts something he has heard from his brother. He tries to at least come across as happy and friendly even when he isn’t fully feeling that way, thinking it is something he owes to the Decepticons who saved him.

He is constantly tormented by the memories of Decepticons who died because of him, and if he is left alone long enough he will revert back to believing that those were people he killed, as if it had been his intention.

Backstory:
Sunstorm was created as a mutual effort attempt between Wheeljack and Ratchet to produce a clone of Starscream from a portion of ember data, in hopes that it would please Optimus Prime and give them extra value in his optics. During the early stages of the ember formation they decided to expose the ember to radiation, hoping it would accelerate the growth and maturity of the ember. While it did provide the boost needed to make the ember suitable to be placed in the look alike body they soon found out it had some major drawbacks. First of all the radiation permeated the form along with the ember, the radiation itself was harmful to the body, slowly melting and corroding away the circuitry and mechanical components, which was very painful for Sunstorm. Another adverse reaction from the radiation was that it radiated out from the body, more powerful and effective against anyone around Sunstorm then the damage it was causing Sunstorm himself.

From the very beginning Sunstorm was told a litany of how he was a failure and unfit to even live, as he was being experimented on by the two who had created him. When Optimus Prime found out about his existence the villainous Autobot made sure to add his own mocking of Sunstorm’s small pleas to be let go meet his ‘brother’, Starscream, whom he intrinsically knew he shared a significant portion of ember with. When experimentation on Sunstorm became boring and uneventful his three mockers devised a new plan on how to destroy the mech’s fragile mindset.

They locked him into a cell that had radiation resistant lining, trapping him inside with his own radiation, and began to throw captive Decepticons in with him, leaving them until they either died or cracked enough to tell vital information. Witnessing how his own touch did more damage than good when he first tried to help the decepticons Sunstorm was tormented by the subsequent deaths. To add to this Optimus Prime decided that he wanted to discourage Sunstorm from ever seeking out his ‘brother’ should he ever escape. To do this he began teaching Sunstorm the basic information about the two factions, warping what the young mech heard of Megatron to turn him into a vicious leader who beat and belittled his second in command, Starscream. He also convinced Sunstorm that Megatron would take out all of his anger at the loss of his Decepticons, from Sunstorm’s own radiation, on the flyer, if he ever ventured too close.

Now fully afraid of the Autobots who held him prisoner and had tormented him from the moment he first woke up, and deeply afraid of the leader of the Decepticons, Sunstorm had no idea how to get free of his torment. Fortune would have it that the Decepticons were making a raid of that particular facility one day and as they cleared out the cells they came across Sunstorm. None of them aware of who he was they brought him out with them and he came face to face with Starscream for the first time in his life. His happiness at this was dulled by the shame of the deaths he had caused. After some consolation he finally submitted to being taken along to a secondary facility where Starscream himself found out the truth of his radiation and constructed dampeners to prevent the radiation from harming himself or those around him any longer.

All the more enamored with his brother Sunstorm was prepared to stay with him no matter what, until he was reminded of Megatron. His fear of the leader proved equal to his adoration of his brother and he tried desperately to convince his brother not to go back. He would not believe that Megatron wasn’t abusing Starscream even after having admitted that the Autobots had lied to him on many occasions in the past. They were still in the process of figuring out how to work out all the accommodations to get Starscream back where he was needed in Polyhex without leaving Sunstorm behind, which Starscream refused to do.

Moral Standing: Sunstorm is somewhere between Neutral Good and Chaotic Good. He is overly generous and if not cautioned against it will even do what he can to support his enemies without realizing it. He is morally sound in a surprising capacity despite his experience so far.

Dreams: Sunstorm’s life goals at the moment are rather simple, mostly to spend as much time as possible with his brother, somehow save his brother from Megatron (who he is sure is abusing Starscream) and hopefully find out a purpose for his life.

Fears: He has an unconquerable fear of Megatron, to the point of having extreme panic attacks if press with the inevitability of coming face to face with the mech. He also fears the Autobots in a while and the idea of being returned to his previous torment.

Extra: Sunstorm is not canonly present in the Shattered Glass continuity, so this rendition may as well be an OC. His background is developed in a way that makes any potential interaction between himself and Megatron (with both being my characters) minimal to nonexistent.

Character Location: No character location.
Samples: OC character for Transformers Shattered Glass, set at an ambiguous point, it is hard to give any sample of the canon for him.

Writing Sample:
When the door to his cell opened Sunstorm hastily got up and stumbled over to the back corner, the place he had learned he had to stay when they were throwing a prisoner in here. Often he wished he could have the courage to run into the guard at the door, especially now that they only sent one, and overpower him and leave. He knew his radiation was a powerful deterrent for many of the guards, who would rather not get too close to him, but not knowing where to go once he was free prevented him from acting on that knowledge.

When he couldn’t hear any of the normal sounds of a prisoner being forced into the cell he looked up, his expression a bit stunned to see two mechs looking curiously into the cell at him. Their badges clear crisp red even in the partial light, showing that these two were Decepticons. When his optics finally met with one of the two, both having been peering into the gloom of the cell to try and find who was kept in here, the rescuer smiled at him and it was a kind expression. The next few moments felt like he was on autopilot, following them when the called for him to join them in getting out of here, making his way through the halls of the only place he had ever known. Finally he move out the door and backed away from everyone he could, many who had joined up and been walking near him already complaining of being more sore than before.

He curled in on himself, crouching in a spot that was just far enough away from everyone. He was still trying to figure out what to do when he heard footsteps approaching and looked up, his optics meeting with the kindest, blue optics he had ever seen. His whole ember jumped in it’s place, automatically recognizing its ‘twin’ for lack of a better term.

“B-brother?” His own voice was barely audible even to himself, but he wanted nothing more than to throw himself at the other mech and seek comfort in his arms, something he somehow knew he would be given.
